Your journey begins at the Hanging Church, also known as the Suspended Church. It gained its name because it was built above the southern gate of the Roman Fortress of Babylon. This unique church is famous for its roof shaped like Noah’s Ark and served as the residence of the Coptic Patriarch from the 7th to the 13th century, making it one of the most significant sites in Coptic Cairo.

Next, visit the historic Ben Ezra Synagogue, which dates back to the 9th century and was built on the remains of a 4th-century Christian church. According to tradition, it is believed to be the place where the Prophet Jeremiah gathered the Jews after the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple in the 6th century BC. Restored in the 12th century, the synagogue later became a key center for documenting the life and history of the North African Jewish community from the 11th to the 13th centuries.

You will then be transferred to a charming local restaurant to enjoy your lunch before continuing your exploration of Old Cairo.

After lunch, continue to Abu Serga Church, believed to be built on the site where the Holy Family—Mary, Jesus Christ, and Joseph—rested during their journey into Egypt. This church holds immense historical and spiritual importance, and many patriarchs of the Coptic Church were appointed here.

Your final stop is the Virgin Mary Church, located in Haret Zuweila. It is considered the oldest church in the area and is believed to have been constructed during the 10th century, with some inscriptions dating to the 12th century. The church served as the seat of the Orthodox Pope of Alexandria from 1400 AD until 1520 AD, highlighting its great religious significance.
